Fair enough...

by Jonathan Leeman

I suppose I deserve that! ;-)

(But you're not helping my ego to tell me that I rule.)

Jonathan and Greg,

Thank you so much for all of your clarifying comments. I still have a couple of questions about Cry 1.

First, was Dever implying that some implications of the gospel (i.e. cultural engagement, politics, urban renewal, feeding the poor) are not things that the church should involve itself in as a corporate entity?

In other words, these activities are fine for the individual Christian but not for the church gathered. If so, how do we distinguish between matters that are community responsibilities and
those that are only the responsibility of the individual? In Dever's view, would be a matter of consistently applying the regulative principle?

Second, was Dever (as a concerned friend) implicitly critiquing Tim Keller and Acts 29 as he critiqued Tom Wright/Chuck Colson? Are we reading too much into the speech to think so?

Hey guys,

Please forgive me for not reading the rules and introducing myself earlier. I hope there will be opportunities for you to continue to clarify Dr. Dever's first cry.

Blessings,
Jared Kennedy
