African Independent Churches
Jonathan and I are teaching this week a little more than 50 church leaders of African independent churches. Apparently this is a rare thing for independent church leaders to come together. Vasco, our team leader, gave us several warnings and was very concerned about what we'd be teaching..."no strange fire!" Vasco and the African Enterprise team is even more excited because 10 of the 50 are bishops or archbishops that oversee as many as 50 churches each.
We are about 75% of the way through our material and are encouraged. We are being translated into Zulu (about half those in attendance struggle with English). We have marched through the core of 9Marks material and are struck by the humility and teachability of all in attendance.
Personally, I love preaching and teaching to Africans. They are verbally responsive as you teach. This helps to know if they understand. And they joyfully interact with each other as you teach. And they interact with the teacher (a bit dangerous for me because it really revs me up!). The singing in Zulu is amazing. They sing loudly. They sing with their bodies (kind of like CJ Mahaney). And they sing with joy.
Pray that the seeds sewn would not be snatched away by Satan and that they would take root and grow for the good of His church and His glory alone!

Matt and Jonathan,
I greatly appreciate the updates you've been giving.
As you recount the details of those faithful brothers and sisters halfway across the world, it encourages me to pray that God will continue His good work there, and praise Him that His Gospel has no boundary in this world.
Praise God for those faithful Christians there who, "Though they have not seen Jesus, they love him; and even though they do not see him now, they believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for they (and we!) are receiving the goal of our faith, the salvation of our souls." (I Peter 1:8-9)
Praise God! Please keep the updates coming!
