Good Advice for Young Leaders

by Michael Mckinley

One older saint at Capitol Hill Baptist Church once told Matt Schmucker that young men tend to overestimate how much they can accomplish in the short term, but underestimate how much they can accomplish in the long term.

I have found those words to be a wise encouragement to patience and perseverance.

Thank you. This was a timely reminder, admonishment, and encouragement for me, a 28-year-old learning how to be a pastor/elder.

I remember the first time I heard something very similar to this was from the mouth of Howard Hendricks in my leadership class at Dallas Seminary. He used the time frame 1 year/5 years. I haven't forgotten it since that day.
