Why Obama May Not Be the Antichrist
In the past week and a half, I have been fielding more than my normal number of questions from people about the antichrist. It seems that the election results have gone in ways that make some Christians fear that the end times are upon us and evil is making its climactic rise to challenge the authority of God.
Now first let me say that, as much as I am sinfully tempted to snigger at people who see the Book of Revelation under every rock, Christians certainly need to be wise and watchful as they live in a fallen world. So maybe the president-elect is the antichrist. But then again, maybe Tony Romo is. Time will tell. As an Eagles fan, you know which way I'm leaning.
Here's what I think about the question, though:
I don't know if Obama is a Christian or not. If he's not, then he's antichrist in the sense that anyone who is not for Jesus is against him (Luke 11:23). But then so is my next door neighbor who smokes pot in his garage until 5:00 AM on Sunday mornings. Whether or not the president-elect is for Jesus or against him isn't my call to make.
But more importantly, this question seems to take a very America-centric view of eschatology. Monsters like Hitler, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, and Josef Stalin have all risen and fallen and have not been the harbinger of the end times. But this guy wants to socialize our health care, and Jesus is supposed to be so enraged that he will come storming back to save us?
Please. The Christian faith is doing great. Christ's church is being built. The gospel is exploding in other parts of the world. It's not the end of the world... just because you think America's going down the tubes or because you don't like the guy elected to lead one branch of the government for the next four years.
If you're struggling... just take a deep breath, put down your copy of Left Behind, and pray for the president-elect.

Thanks for this post. It's well written and, I hope, well taken by all who read it.

Hey Michael,
Interesting topic, but you're behind the times. Over at www.christandpopculture, we're all over it.(http://www.christandpopculture.com/featured/barack-obama-is-not-the-anti-christ/).
You'll be glad to note that three of the writers for this site (including the author of this article) are either members or former members of Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville, KY where Kurt Heath is pastor.
Thanks for your work!

Phew. The last thing we need over here across the pond is more cowboy attitude.
By the way, healthcare over there could certainly benefit from some socialising.

Amen. Well put.
From my understanding this began as e-mail rumor that then got posted online and then got carried in the mass media based on an incorrect quoting of scripture by people trying to manipulate both fear and the vote. Something I think runs contrary to the faith that means so much to me.
In addition, it seems easy to read current events and characters onto Revelation.
At the end of the day, the world is in his hands. Our faith should be in him no matter the circumstances.

Assentia, I think you've missed the point.

Well, I don't think he's quite the antichrist - but, personally, I think any man who supports partial birth abortion - where the child is taken from the womb intact and left to die - has something terribly wrong with him. I read a transcript of a conversation where Obama chastises a women who was asking about having these "children" given care and Obama's responses were chilling to read. I will try to find the site and post it so you all can read the exchanges yourself and draw your own conclusions. BTW, I'm pro-choice - but these late term abortions are definitely disgusting in my opinion.

Maybe it's me but it seems as though the tone of your comments is a little condesending towards christians that struggle with fear (as we all do from time to time) and christians that hold a view of an end times Antichrist (which is not difinitive in scripture)...just my impression.

Hey,
There's tons of non-Christian professional who do awesome job in their work field. When I go to a dentist, I don't care if he's a Christian. Same about an engineer who designed my car - it doesn't matter to me whether he is or is not a Christian.
And the fact that Obama graduated from an Ivy League school with a degree in Law says a lot about his work ethics and ability to think.
I respect that man for what he has achieved, no matter whether he is Christian or not. Looking at his past achievements, I think this man has prooved to be a very intelligent hard worker, and that's the main point.
P.S. Plus, no soul can get to know Jesus through any laws and regulations. Rulers can make people do something, but they can not keep people from getting to know Jesus, or to help them to know Jesus better. It's a personal decision and lots of prayer that bring people to God.

Depending on when you believe the rapture happens (pre-trib. here) this verse is significant at least to Pres. elect Obama is "The Anti-Christ", specifically verse 6&7
2Th 2:3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
2Th 2:4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
2Th 2:5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?
2Th 2:6 And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time.
2Th 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.
2Th 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.
2Th 2:9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders,
2Th 2:10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

You must be a Yankees fan...
It is no good to exchange one delusion (Obama=Anti Christ) for another (the Yankees are still a top tier team).
Go Sox!

Antichrist fever is running amok. I have been fielding similar questions since last Tuesday. I bogged about it last week.

This kind of end-of-world stuff is so prevalent and the internet has only let it go faster (to all our detriment). You have put up an good article and I'm glad to see others are starting to do the same. See

Donovan McNabb...13 letters, an evil number. Add in "Jamal" as middle name you have 18, divide by 3 and get "6" - mmm, three 6's. Could it be?
Good work on your blogging, bro.

"But this guy wants to socialize our health care, and Jesus is supposed to be so enraged that he will come storming back to save us?"
I wonder what people who think like that make of the gospel story of Jesus healing the woman who had spent everything she had on mercenary doctors?

Saton is sly, The anti-christ may not be like hitler or stalin, but very subtle!!!

No reformer or early christian ever believed that obama will be/is the antichrist...is unlikely but possible that the signs of the man of lawlessness have already been fullfilled.
