In the Eyes of a Ranger, the Unsuspecting Stranger
For those of you who did not see our riveting e-mail today announcing the God Exposed conference, I'd like to bring it to your attention, and deposit some thoughts for your consideration:
- Can you imagine if a spontaneous basketball game breaks out between CJ Mahaney and Thabiti Anyabwile and Mark Dever, in any way, shape, or form, gets involved? Does that man own a pair of athletic gear (shorts, shirts, shoes)? Doubtful. Mark probably does know that it was invented by James Naismith and originally played with peach baskets (thank you Cambridge history degree) but the words "LeBron James" have never passed through his lips or cognitively through his ears.
- A group of Capitol Hill Baptist guys are going to do a "Sermon Review" session. If you haven't experienced a CHBC sermon review, don't picture "Scott Hamilton calmly and placidly praises Oksana Baiul's triple lutz". Think more of a "Walker Texas Ranger is standing at your door and you've got 2.4 seconds before..." Well...you've seen the medical attention needed by the bad guys who experience the fury of Walker/Trivette.
- Danny Akin. I thought about writing something funny about that guy but he's single-handedly nicer than my grandparents, all pastors north of the Mason Dixon line, and the entire 9Marks staff put together. I'm pretty sure fingers melt if anything other than respect or kindness is written about that man. You should come even if just for Danny. He's an amazingly godly man.
- Mike McKinley...well, let's see here. Mike has accomplished, uh, well...oh yeah, Mike is a "blogger". Mike is "nice". He has brown hair. He...likes...people, I think? He is, uh...married. I'm pretty sure he has some kids? Let's see, what else? He and my grandma both really like Designing Women re-runs? Ugh, okay, I tried.
So come to the conference. For the sake of all those little children out there who someday dream about becoming a conference attendee, come.

I would have said South of the Mason-Dixon line. Though to be fair most of the SBC pastors north of the Mason-Dixon line were born raised in the South. Going to visit the nearest SBC Church's pastoral staff (if they have more than one pastor) is the best way to find a Southerner in the North.
